CELTA TESOL Certificate
Whether you are pursuing a new career in teaching English as a Second Language, or are an experienced teacher seeking an accredited teaching qualification, the University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is the perfect qualification for you.
As the most reputable and widely recognized TESOL/TEFL certification of its kind, the CELTA TESOL Certificate is the ideal certificate for any teachers seeking specialized professional training. Accepted both in the United States and abroad, teachers qualified with the CELTA TESOL Certificate can pursue positions teaching English to adults or young learners, Business English to professionals, or exam training for tests like the University of Cambridge CEA or FCE internationally-recognized exams.
We offer over 30 CELTA TESOL Certificate courses throughout the year at our centers in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.
- Our most popular course, the intensive full-time course, meets from 9:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 4 weeks.
- Our extensive part-time course meets from 6:00-9:30 p.m. two evenings a week as well as on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- Our Semi-Intensive course meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday over 6 weeks from 9:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Each course incorporates 6 hours of practical classroom teaching. These multilingual classes involve teaching real ESL students from the community, all from a variety of countries and ranging in age from 18 to 60. Our trainees teach classes of different levels ranging from pre-intermediate to upper-intermediate and cover grammar, vocabulary and skills lessons. As a teacher who has graduated from the CELTA TESOL course, you can be sure you will have the confidence to teach a range of different language lessons to a range of different language levels.
All of our TESOL courses involve a tremendous amount of interaction between trainees, trainers and ESL students. In addition to the time spent in class, each trainee is responsible for several hours of lesson planning and the completion of 4 assignments during the course.
Each day also includes seminars, lectures, and workshops called 'input sessions.' These sessions cover effective methods to teach language skills, grammar and vocabulary, classroom management techniques and how to effectively bring authentic materials into the classroom. In addition, career and job search assistance is provided.
Teaching House sets itself apart from other CELTA TESOL centers by continuing to provide professional help to our trainee teachers even after they've completed the course. We give lifelong career assistance and access to Teaching House resources to all our trainees.

"I took the course last January and was immediately offered interviews at some of the best language schools in New York City even though it was their low season for hiring. As the job market has become tighter, the directors of these schools have really been looking for qualified candidates to employ, and they're definitely interested in CELTA grads."
Sian, January 2009"This course is absolutely necessary for anyone who wants to teach ESL as a career. In fact this course would be helpful for anyone teaching any subject. The course is totally worthwhile and, in a word, outstanding."
