Director of Studies
International House New York is looking for a dynamic Director of Studies to start in spring 2012.
IH New York is looking for a full-time DoS to provide academic and professional leadership and to manage the student experience. This is a position for a DoS with experience working in a study abroad school or within the IH system.
This is a managerial role, with responsibilities including:
• class scheduling
• teacher recruitment and management
• managing the professional development system, including observations and PD sessions
• developing our products and courses
• dealing with student problems and managing their experience in New York
• working closely with the office staff to provide academic support to the sales team
• weekly administration including weekly reports
The ideal candidate will have:
• At least five years ESL experience in a variety of different contexts
• At least two years of experience in academic management, preferably within the IH network
• An understanding of the study abroad market and the pressures of a school offering continuous enrollment
• The ability to cope with competing pressures and to deal with a wide variety of student and teacher problems
• The ability to lead, manage and motivate a teaching team
• Independence, efficiency, flexibility, responsibility and decisiveness

- Summer Host Teacher
If you're a CELTA-qualified teacher, you can host an international student in your home, and teach English from the comfort of your own living room. Stays range from 1 week and up. The pay range is between $630 to $850 a week (depending on the number of hours of class selected).

- Admin Intern
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Administrative Officer to join our team! You will be based at our New York office, located in TriBeCa, downtown Manhattan, which is close to SoHo, Greenwich Village and the Financial District. The right candidate will have a genuine passion and the right attitude to join our well-established company. Please note that 2 positions are available and these are internship positions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing excellent customer service on the phone and by email
- Speaking to and registering non-native English-speaking students who are interested in taking classes
- Contributing to marketing campaigns, both in print and on the web
- Liaising with tourist organizations and booking agencies to arrange excursions for students
Qualifications/experience:
- Must be fluent Japanese or Korean speaker
- Previous customer service experience is preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent (minimum)
- Must be computer and web literate. High level of proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook a must
Qualities:
- Energy & enthusiasm
- Flexibility with regard to type of work assignments
- Must be a team-player and willing to pitch in during busy periods
- Strong admin & time-management skills
- Excellent spoken & written English skills critical, TOEFL exam result useful, but not mandatory
- A speaker of more than one language and an interest in language learning
- Previous office clerical or administrative experience highly preferred
Conditions of work:
- Monday to Friday 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. with one evening a week working until 6:30 p.m.
- Dress is smart casual, unless you have a meeting out of the office or are working off-site as above.

Salary and benefits:
Pay is $390/month for the first 3 months, rising to $780/month from month 4 onwards
