Staff and Safety

The safety of our students is International House's #1 priority and we take every aspect into consideration. International House has First Aid qualified staff on site at all times and we have connections to local doctors and hospitals, in case of emergencies.

Our dedicated staff of teachers and activity leaders are personally chosen by the center owners to ensure the highest level of professionalism, safety and educational experience for our students. IH New York's staff all go through a thorough application process which includes a personal interview and provision of at least two references for a background check. Staff members are selected for their enthusiasm, experience, qualifications, and ability to relate well to students.

English lessons are taught by our qualified and motivated team of teachers. Every teacher on our team is certified with a minimum of a CELTA qualification (approved by the University of Cambridge) or the equivalent and have experience working with teenagers. The teachers are supported by the Director of Studies who ensures that educational goals are met and the students maximize their learning potential.

All staff attend a comprehensive training course where a range of essential issues are covered, including security, center policies and safety guidelines. Meetings with the owners, management team and staff take place daily to ensure policies and procedures are being fully implemented.

Both campuses are in safe areas of New York and have dedicated and experienced teams of security officers on duty 24 hours a day as well, as CCTV around the sites, photograph id cards and several levels of security in the residences. Accommodation buildings are accessed only by residents in possession of our photo identification cards.
