TKT TESOL Certificate
The Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) is an exam for non-native English speakers who want to pursue a career in English language teaching but may or may not have a background in teaching. It is a theoretical test that focuses on the core aspects of teaching to primary, secondary, or adult learners from different backgrounds. The award is flexible and accessible, and covers different methodologies for teaching and classroom management, as well as key aspects for lesson planning.
The TKT TESOL Certificate provides a foundation in the essentials of teaching, and is considered to be a good first step to initiate a career in ESL. It is often followed up with another teaching award such as the CELTA TESOL. The TKT has three core modules that cover language and background to language learning and teaching, planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching, and managing the teaching and learning process. The test is graded in a series of band scores from 1-4.
The Teaching House program combines 3 hours of TKT TESOL training, in addition to 3 hours of language development each day. This combination ensures language improvement as well as solid exam preparation for our trainees.
In total, the TKT TESOL Course is a 4-week full-time commitment, and requires time outside the classroom for homework, language practice and preparation for the end-of-course exam.
In addition to the language component, the TKT TESOL Course includes seminars, lectures, and workshops called "input sessions." These sessions cover effective methods to teach language skills, grammar and vocabulary, and classroom management techniques.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements to take the TKT TESOL Course, but applicants are advised to have at least an intermediate level of English, which is assessed through the application process. There is a maximum of 12 trainees in each group.
